Test Setup and Benchmarks
We literally received our cards 20hrs before the article had to be released, so we had limited time to work with both the X1900XT and the NVIDIA 7800GTX 512MB cards. As such for this preview we are including a small subset of those tests we completed, with the intention of following up this week with a look at performance in more games, and also in the newly released 3dMark 06 benchmark.
The setup is as follows:
(1)
AMD 3700+ @ 2.7GHz
OCZ PC 4800 RAM
DFI RDX200 CF-DR motherboard
Seagate Barracuda 120GB harddrive
2 X1900 XT Video Cards (R580)
(2)
AMD 3700+ @ 2.7GHz
OCZ PC 5000 RAM
DFI LanParty SLI motherboard
Western Digital WD1200 120GB harddrive
2 7800 GTX 512MB Video Cards
Benchmarks:
3DMark 05: Fillrate, Pixel and Vertex Shader
Doom 3: Timedemo
Call of Duty 2: Custom Demo
Far Cry: Regulator Demo
Splinter Cell 3: Lighthouse Demo
*All tests were run with maximum quality and detail settings*
3DMark 05
We can see that in Fill Rate tests the X1900 is last place for the dual card configuarations.
Pixel Shader performance is on top with X1900XT, pushing past the 7800 GTX 512 by 100 points.
Again we see good performance withe the Vertex Shaders. The 7800 GTX 512 comes out on top for Simple Vertex Shader.
