ASUS VG236H 3D Monitor and NVIDIA 3D Surround Review - PAGE 1
Carl Poirier - Monday, October 18th, 2010 Like ShareNVIDIA's 3D Vision technology has been available to consumers since August 2009. One month later, ATI released the HD5xxx series videocards, along with the multi-monitor technology dubbed Eyefinity. It wasn't until July of this year that NVIDIA introduced an equivalent technology, called Surround. One great advantage of it is that it can be used at the same time as the 3D Vision technology.
It isn't until recently that 3D displays really have taken off. Before, only a select few computer monitors supported stereoscopic 3D, but now they cannot be counted on one hand. Furthermore, many 3D TVs are available, as well as laptops featuring 3D displays. The price of such monitors has dropped a lot in recent months. One great offering is the ASUS VG236H 23" 1080P 3D monitor, which is going to be reviewed today. Selling for $500, it includes the NVIDIA 3D Vision kit from the start. This means as long as one has an NVIDIA videocard, $500 is all what is needed to get into 3D. At the same time, 1080P monitors have begun to span the lower prices; many 23" ones are available below the $200 mark, which allows for a pretty cheap high-end multi-monitor setup.
Neoseeker takes this occasion to try out NVIDIA Surround technology, with three of the ASUS monitors mentioned earlier. Can these really enhance one's gaming experience? Can these give an advantage over other players in multiplayer gaming? That's what we intend to find out today.
