ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP - PAGE 3
Tom Karpik, William Henning
- Friday, August 4th, 2006

The BIOS on the P5B Deluxe is -- you guessed it -- much like the BIOS on many previous ASUS boards we've had in the lab. By and large, the layout of this BIOS is easy to learn and get around, but as I've already said in the past, I wish that ASUS would incorporate some of the features we saw in the NVIDIA nForce 5XX reference BIOS as implemented on the Foxconn C51XEM2AA. Columns illustrating the current setting are infinitely handy once you start getting deeper into overclocking land.

Here are some VGA captures of P5B Deluxe's BIOS for the curious, starting off with the main panel:

The System Frequency/Voltage panel is where the typical overclocker will be spending some time. ASUS has kept up with its standards and kept the same great amount of flexibility in options as seen on previous boards:

The North Bridge Chipset Configuration panel is where most obsessive tweakers will be spending the majority of their time. There are not as many memory tunables here as we've seen from other boards in the past, and there is no command rate setting. The P5B does not have the most flexible implementation in this respect, but it still better than most run-of-the-mill boards.

Lastly, we have three less-interesting screenshots that more or less illustrate the remaining configuration capabilities of the P5B's BIOS:

Overall, this is a BIOS that does not disappoint, and will earn points among most overclockers, but the most hardcore of enthusiasts out there will remain hungry for more.
