Asus Eee PC 901 Review - PAGE 10
William Henning - Friday, July 4th, 2008

Doom 3

Okay, before anyone throws rotten eggs at me:

I KNEW the Eee PC 901 is not meant for gaming!

But I was very curious - I wanted to know if by some miracle 640x480 Doom 3 would be playable.

It's not. Not even when the Atom is overclocked to 1.8GHz.

If you reduced all quality settings to their minimum and tried say 320x240 it may work - sorta.

(The E4300 and Athlon X2 5000+ systems were using an Nvidia GeForce 7800GT)

WinRAR

Here the Eee PC 901 performed at about 43% the speed of the E4300 - but remember, the E4300 has more cache, faster fsb and memory - which is running in dual channel mode.

WinRAR MT

Ok, SMT does not compare to true dual core, however I am quite impressed by how much Intel has improved the performance of SMT relative to a single core - last time, the improvement was not nearly so large. Here, the SMT Atom came in at 39% the performance of the dual core E4300 which had a faster bus, faster memory - that was dual channel to boot.
