So where does the AMD Performance Edition end up? Compared to the sticks with tighter timings, it falls short by a tiny margin in most benchmarks that do not require a large RAM capacity, but sticks running at 1600MHz with a CAS of 7 are not in the same price bracket anyway. On the other hand, many sticks rated at 1866MHz CAS 9 that perform roughly the same as the underclocked Mushkin sticks tested here are selling in the sixties, and the AMD Performance Edition was able to exceed their performance once overclocked. This 1600MHz kit can run completely stable over 2GHz, which represents a 20% increase in frequency. That can make for some nice framerates in games, depending on the configuration. Furthermore, the physical package is interesting as its 30mm height should not prove to be a hindrance when installing near or under some of the larger heatsinks.
The sticks could become even more attractive If AMD drives the prices down a bit for its platform. At $55 for the sticks rated at 1600MHz 8-9-8-24, the AMD branded memory is a nice option thanks to maker Patriot Memory delivering a high quality product.

I doubt using 1866mhz ram would see much of a benefit on a Phenom system, since Phenom supports 1333Mhz ram and any ram that is higher than that would be automatically downclocked.
Seems that this ram, whilst decent looking, offers little competition at the moment though, especially since rival vendors are producing ram at comparable performance at less power.
Perhaps we might also see ram control added to Catalyst/Vision Control Centre.
