AMD Wraith Cooler Performance on FX-6350 Black Edition CPU Review - PAGE 1
Marvin Purdy - Friday, June 17th, 2016 Like ShareLast month I had the opportunity to check out the repackaged AMD FX 8350 processor that came bundled with the chipmaker's new "Wraith" heatsink cooling solution, and today I will be taking another look the Wraith's performance with the FX-6350 Vishera 6-core 3.9 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) processor that directly competes with the Intel Core i3 CPU.
As shown in the second slide below, the FX 6350 processor provides 1.5 times the multithreading capacity over the Intel Core i3 and over thrice the total cache. AMD's FX-8370, 8350, and 6350 processors are now available packaged with AMD's "Wraith" cooler to provide an out-of-the-box enthusiast level cooling solution.
The third slide meanwhile demonstrates the expected gaming performance increases that Microsoft DirectX 12 API offers over DirectX 11 when the FX 6350 processor is paired with an AMD R9 390X graphics card, delivering more data at a faster rate to get work done quicker through the use of multicore processors. Rendering is completed in less time and latency is reduced thus giving you more frames per second, a definite advantage with multiplayer gaming and a great help for those work graphic presentations so popular these days.
Packaging:
The FX 6350 arrived packaged in a compressed cardboard box with a matte black background color, and is almost twice the depth and a little taller than the older box packaging. A photo of the FX 6350's new cooler (with the AMD logo illuminated on the side of the fan shroud) can be seen as a faint image that wraps around the front, top and left side of the package.
On the front panel and over the top panel is an orange ribbon imprinted with the processor model number and clock speed. One of the side panels has a small opening that offers a view of the processor itself inside the packaging.
The back panel summarizes the various AMD processor models. The packaging seal folding over the very top panel also features processor information, with the serial number plus accompanying bar code, UPC and QR codes.
After opening the package we find the inner cardboard packaging for the Wraith Cooler and the actual black box that holds the CPU and specification/warranty guides.
Here is shot of the AMD Certificate of Authenticity, three-year warranty and installation instructions that come on a single folded sheet.
Next up is a look at the FX 6350 processor inside the protective plastic package, along with an emblem to affix on your system case or monitor.

Closer Look:
The AMD Wraith cooler comes with a 90mm fan that runs at 39dbA and pushes 34 percent more air flow than the chipmaker's previous version. With an additional 24 percent more cooling fin surface area, the Wraith cooler can provide 125W of thermal cooling potential while still providing clearance for installation of memory modules into any of the motherboard DIMM slots (without having to remove the Wraith cooler if already installed).
The Wraith cooler shroud comes packaged in the processor box with two plastic covers for protection during transit.
The next four photos show the Wraith cooler fan with shroud, one side with the standard AMD mounting clip, and a side view and bottom view with some thermal paste pre-applied on the thermal transfer plate. Note the clear air flow channels between the dissipation fins in the fourth photo showing the fan blades.
Here is a shot of the Wraith cooler during operation, showcasing the backlit illumination coming from the AMD logo on the cooler shroud. It lets you show off your FX 6350 processor in style if you have a widowed computer case!
