Movies
Movies beg for more speakers to send signals to; crowds, cars, planes, music, environment effects all going at once just don't sound all that right when concentrated into 2 speakers. The AHS-602 has one thing going for it though, the SRS sound effect to try and simulate a wider field. Lets take a look at how well the AHS-602 holds up.
Die Hard With A Vengence is a personal favorite of mine, while 1 was great 3 just seems to be a bit more special since it's what saved the series. Anyway that's another debate. The thing about Die Hard 3 is that it was put out at a time when newer technologies were coming into movie theaters. This is a plus since there's no worries about post production issues where sounds get jumbled around a bit. Anyway things don't have to go that far before things blow up, literally. The initial explosion in the start of the movie rocks the headphones with SRS sound on, it's wise to actually turn the bass down a bit since SRS boosts the low end response as well. The overall effect given was a positive one, sounds were spread out way more than before. Car chases, gunfire and scenes with crowds are reproduced well, the AHS-602 pass through the movie with flying colors.
Bad Boys 2 comes up as the next challenger. Once again lots of action scenes filled with tons of audio treats. Instead of using the car chase as the default check the breech of the Spanish Palms Mortuary was the subject, radio calls between the team members and tons of environmental effects such as rain, thunder, wet gravel and more. The scene of course was being played back using the SRS 3D effect. Once again the sound field showed no problems at all and minimal if any noticeable coloring to things. Following this the freeway chase scene was played to confirm the results. Minimal sound quality coloring was picked up and the sounds were heard quite clear. Once again the AHS-602 showed no problems in movie playback.
The Bourne Identity is another favorite of mine, so many environmental sounds going on it really puts things to the test. The classic Mini chase scene is the subject here. With the SRS kicked up once again I let the scene fly. Bumps, water splashing, suspension noises and everything else were as clear as day, the SRS actually helped in this case to seperate the noises or at least make it seem as if they were a bit more defined. The scene was then played back without the SRS just to confirm it and the suspected items were a bit more flat without the SRS effect. Once again the coloration found in some of the music tracks wasn't found anywhere in the movie, a great reproduction was found to be up there with a good quality 2.1 system. While it didn't contain earth shaking bass it did produce some good deep tones. The AHS-602 managed to pass all movie tests with flying colors.
