There are only a handful of companies that manufacture extreme cooling solutions for graphics cards, and those that do often release products that just don’t live up to the hype. One cooler that did, however, was the Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME. This product used five copper heatpipes that were attached to a massive aluminum finned array. To top it all off though, the Accelero XTREME had three 92mm PWM fans that produced an impressive amount of airflow while keeping a low dBA level. All of this made it a great cooling option. The cooler did have an Achilles heel though, which was support that was limited to only a few select graphics cards. To address this, Arctic Cooling is releasing an updated version of the Accelero XTREME, called the Accelero XTREME Plus.
The Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME Plus keeps the main aspects of its predecessor, but this models adds support to most current high-end graphics cards on the market. The support ranges from graphics cards in ATI’s HD 3800 series to HD 5800 series and also the majority of Fermi based Nvidia graphics cards. This greatly expands the support of the Acclero XTREME and should make it more attractive.
One aspect that remains unchanged though is the massive size of the cooler. The Accelero XTREME Plus is a triple slot cooling solution that at 290mm in length nearly rivals the size of a standard HD 5970. This could make it unusable in many mid-sized chasses. The size is in part the reason behind the outstanding cooling efficiency of this product.
In this review we will be dissecting an HD 5830 to install this beast, and see just how well it performs on a current generation (well for this week anyway) high performance graphics card.

I see that card is shorter
In my opinion the Accelero XTREME Plus would cool better. It has a larger finned array which gives it a larger surface area to separate the heat and three fans that have a higher CFM than the Icy cooler. I am sure the Gelid would cool well though and the smaller size is a plus.
