The Arctic Cooling Accelero XTREME Plus comes packaged in a clear plastic casing that uses the clam-shell design. This gives the consumer a nearly unrestricted view of the front of the cooler. Also on the front is a XTREME plus logo as well as an insert that boasts a 36°C improvement over stock cooling and a 0.5 Sone rating, which is a unit of perceived loudness.

The back of the packaging is where the ins and outs of the cooler are found. On this panel Arctic Cooling lists the specifications, main features and VGA compatibility list. According to AC this cooler supports ATI's Radeon 5800, 4800 and 3800-series graphics cards, while on the NVIDIA side it is compatible with the GeForce GTS 250, GTX 260, 275, 280, 285, 465, 470 and 480 cards.

The Accelero XTEME Plus doesn't come with much in the ways of accessories, but AC has included all that is needed. This consists of a VGA bracket, Molex power adapter, installation screws, washers and an Arctic Cooling logo sticker. Arctic Cooling also includes all the necessary heatsinks needed for the VRM and memory areas on the graphics card.

The top of the cooler consists of three 92mm PWM fans lined in a row inside of a plastic fan holder. The holder is a patented design that not only adds to the overall look of the Accelero XTREME Plus, but also eliminates buzzing and vibration sounds. The included fans have a speed rating ranging from 800 - 2000 RPM, with an airflow rating of 81 CFM. This should allow the Accelero XTREME Plus to efficiently cool any supported GPU core and the cooler actually has a maximum cooling capacity of up to 250W.

Under the fan holder is a large heatsink that has two individual aluminum finned arrays connected via five copper heatpipes. There are a total of 84 fins throughout the cooler and in between the two arrays is a separate heatsink that sits on the core. The design is very impressive, but at the same time very large. The measurements for the cooler are 290(L) x 104(W) x 56(H) mm.

The bottom of the cooler shows a better view of the five cooper heatpipes as well as the base of the Accelero XTREME Plus, which is itself copper. On the base Arctic Cooling has pre-applied Arctic MX-4 thermal paste, which is a high yield compound that should improve the cooling beyond that of a standard compound.

Placing the Accelero XTREME Plus next to an ATI HD 5830 shows just how large the cooler actually is. Sitting next to the the graphics card, the GPU cooler extends across the entire length of the HD 5830. Even with the size Arctic Cooling states this product is SLI and CrossFire compatible.

Despite having three fans, the Accelero XTREME Plus requires only a single convenient fan header to power all three fans. The header plugs directly into the graphics card and is controlled via the PWM. This allows the fan speed to be adjusted automatically or manually via a software utility.

I see that card is shorter
In my opinion the Accelero XTREME Plus would cool better. It has a larger finned array which gives it a larger surface area to separate the heat and three fans that have a higher CFM than the Icy cooler. I am sure the Gelid would cool well though and the smaller size is a plus.
