When I first laid eyes upon the OCZ Tempest cooler, I said "Wow . . . this thing is a beauty!". Of course, OCZ is known for memory, and a handful of power supplies, but coolers are truly a brave foray into a very elite market. That's not to say that there aren't a lot of cooler manufacturers out there -- there are. It is to say however, that building a quality cooler can be more difficult than it looks.
Certainly, the OCZ Tempest looks pretty, but if it can't cool, it's pretty useless. Can the OCZ Tempest hold the coldest flame to any of our main stay coolers? Will it beat any of the higher end solutions? And how will it fare against water cooling? Though I can't say as of yet, I would guess that the OCZ Tempest stands at least a fighting chance.
I've picked out the hottest chip from the lot, plunked it into a board, and cranked up the heat. My hopes are high for the Tempest, and I certainly hope it can pull away some measure of heat. So without further ado, let's take a closer look at the OCZ Tempest and what makes it so special.
