When the NZXT Sentry LXE arrived I was skeptical of the design and even though I could see the practical benefits of it, I was not overly impressed. My opinion on the LXE quickly changed once I found myself using the controller on a daily basis. This is due to the LXE taking all the benefits of a standard internal fan controller and putting it right at a user's finger tips. This allows for quick adjustments to the internal temperatures and noise levels with only minimal effort. Also, since the LXE comes with 7’ long power cable it can be extended to virtually any location on a desk or work area. Beyond being just a means to control the internal fans and monitor temperatures the LXE also features a built-in digital clock and calendar. This adds to the functionality of the controller and could also help save space as it makes an additional desktop clock unnecessary. Even with the exceptional design of the LXE, it does have a few setbacks. The largest of these is that the external design can add to desktop cutter. For users with desktop real estate issues, fitting a large external fan controller could be difficult. Another issue with the LXE is that even relatively light pressure on the LCD can move the whole unit. During my review there was not a time when the LXE moved dramatically, but the rubber pads at the bottom are not quite enough to hold the controller firmly in place. However, the LXE LCD does not require an exceptional amount of force to use, so if it is shifting around the desk, you might be pressing on it too hard. So, even while the LXE does have some issues it is a great product that comes with a very polished look and gives users an easier means to control their internal fans and temperatures. Since the LXE will retail for the same price as the NZXT LX, it is definitetly a good value.
