The MM700s proved to provide some seriously impressive sound, both when playing tunes and playing games. However, it's not exactly perfect. It's strongest point also gives it some significant drawbacks. Because of the direct projection of audio, the MM700s (and any other speakers based on the Planar Focus technology) tend to have a very narrow and specific "sweet spot". This means that the listener must be in a very specific location in order to enjoy the full benefits of the speakers. Further, this doesn't only affect how you (the listener) should be positioned relative to the speakers, it also affects how your ears should be positioned vertically to the speakers. The speaker stands are unadjustable, and the satellites always fire at the same angle - this means that particularly tall or short listeners may be out of the absolute sweet spot.
The Monsoon MM-700 Flat Panel speaker set represents a combination of excellent and high quality components, a superb mix of music and gaming performance, and a price that pits it directly against offerings from more mainstream companies such as Altec Lansing and Cambridge Soundworks. While the $149.99 retail price remains prohibitive to some, it is an extremely reasonable price for a speaker set of this quality, and we applaud Monsoon and Sonigistix for an excellent product.
