Introduction
The third candidate in our Socket Cooler roundup is the well-known FKP32 from GlobalWin. Everyone has heard of Global Win; they have been contenders in the CPU cooling race since 1992 and have without a doubt made their mark on the PC industry. The FKP32 is a simpler cooler design than some of its competitors, but is suitable for not only socket CPUs, but FC-PGA CPUs as well because of its simplicity and relatively small size. Lets dig in!
First Glance The Global Win cooler came to me fully assembled and ready to install. There was nothing special about the package, nor were there any instructions or flyers for the cooler. Although their web site says it comes with a thermal pad, my cooler did not, nor did it have a fan guard, both of which have been included in some of the other coolers I tested. It did include an addional clamp for other CPU mounting platforms though, such as the FC-PGA CPUs and the PPGACelerons, (see the funky looking fan on the far right of the picture), but the cooler has to be disassembled to use these different clamps. Since my application was first going to be regular Socket 7, I used the clamp that came preinstalled, however, I did disassemble the cooler for reference purposes. The weight of this cooler is fair, not too heavy and not too light, making it ideal for FC-PGA CPUs.
