ASUS EN7950GT - PAGE 1
Michael Nguyen - Thursday, December 28th, 2006

ASUS is a company best known for its long history of building quality motherboards. In recent years however, ASUS has begun to expand into different markets such as LCDs, Barebone PCs and Notebooks among other things. One of the first markets ASUS decided to throw its hat into was video cards, and it has consistently produced video cards ever since. The EN7950 GT is one of the latest and greatest offerings from ASUS. Although ASUS is not as well known for its video cards as they are for their motherboards, they have proven in the past that they can make solid, reliable videos cards and have also shown a savvy for non-conventional design.

Today we're looking at ASUS' EN7950GT, a high-performance, DirectX 9-compatible video card, based on the GeForce 7950 GT GPU from NVIDIA.

The GPU that the EN7950 GT is based on - the 7900GT - offers solid performance at its price level. NVIDIA hopes to build on this success by increasing its clock speeds without making any architectural changes to the design. The result is dubbed the 7950 GT. NVIDIA has also not only increased the clock speed of the video RAM, but doubled it in size -- from 256 MB on the 7900 GT to 512 MB. HDCP is now supported by the 7950 GT for compatibility with HDTVs, HD DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs. This may be one of the last performance cards seen in the 79xx series, as NVIDIA just recently released its new flagship chipset, the DirectX 10-compatible GeForce 8800.
