Conclusions
The 3DCooler ULTRA is a bit of a mixed bag when compared to the original PRO. It takes steps in both directions; the temperatures did improve (especially at the lowest fan settings) but the higher powered fan is frustratingly loud and impractical for every day use at the maximum setting. We would also have preferred the rheostat drive bay unit to have stayed in a silver color instead of the copper tone it now has because end users will more likely have a silver case rather than a copper one.
That said, the 3DCooler ULTRA brings all the features and options that we liked on the original PRO its current iteration. Installation and removal of the heatsink is a cinch and so it switching the heatsink between platforms. Without a doubt this is the absolutely easiest heatsink to move between platforms period. The tool less clip design mounts directly on the XP, 64 and the P4 series in a snap. The visual appeal of the cooler still has not worn off. The bright blue LEDs shine as brightly as ever and the towering look of the cooler is still fantastically different. As with the original, we recommend the 3DCooler to anyone who is looking to jazz up their case a bit with something unique as well as to those who are looking to switch processor lines soon but are still on the prowl for an aftermarket cooler. At the lowest fan setting the 3DCooler is one of the quietest heatsink fan units that we have worked with but at the high settings it may be too much for a lot of you.
