Punkbuster, ATI and Nvidia: Freezing in your online FPS favorites? - PAGE 4
Terren Tong - Thursday, September 30th, 2004

Awareness

The goal of this article is not to crucify any of the companies involved. Even at this point it is unclear if the blame lies with all or just some of the involved parties but the lack of communications between the three parties is somewhat disturbing.

I am asking for a couple things -

- Users who experience intermittent freezes AND are positive that it is not a connection issue, speak up, regardless of hardware configuration. Make a post here stating your hardware configuration. As stated, most of the complaints that have come in are using a combination of the NForce 3 and ATI graphics card but there seem to be a lot fewer cases of problems with other hardware configurations. Those who are running a NForce 3 / ATi video card combo and do not have problems with Punkbuster, we'd like to hear from you too and hopefully be able to figure something out for the rest of us.

- Please do not go flaming the companies involved. Deluging them with angry emails is not going to get this resolved any quicker. Letting them know the scope of the problem civilly will.

I know how incredibly frustrating cheating is a game. I also know how incredibly frustrating freezes are in a game. It is unfortunate that the online gaming community needs anti-cheat measures to police a game; there is a certain something lost in competitive gaming online when you have to doubt the honesty of your opponents. However it is not acceptable to exchange one form of grief for another. Nvidia, ATI and Evenbalance all cater to the gaming community and while they all may not be directly involved with this particular problem, it would definitely be a good sign to the community if they stepped up and helped gamers figure out and hopefully fix something that looks definitely broken. After all, what's the point of dropping a load of cash on the latest and greatest game and gaming hardware when it is not going to allow for a pleasant gaming experience?
