The
DV Expo is a spotlight event for many DV fans looking to
broaden their horizons through seeing the newest technology
for editing or production. This year showcased many tutorial
sessions for the public to view, it also showed off many of
the latest developing technologies. It was held in the LA Convention Center December 9-12.
Some of the top notch companies who were performing floor demos were
companies like Adobe, Matrox, Apple, Pinnacle Systems and
Sony electronics. Most showcased their newest product lines, including Premiere 6.5, AfterEffects 5.5, Maya 3D 4.5, and Pinnacle Studio Version 8.
Adobe was running floor demos and advanced tutorial sessions
throughout the weekend while also offering out discounts on
their featured product line. Their demonstrations consisted of
entry level demos of Premiere 6.5. Its numerous
features were highlighted such as background rendering
to eliminate slowdown while you work.
Premiere showed quite a few improvements including a revised
title editor which featured a huge array of new styles and even
a custom editor which allowed for curve editing and letter
property adjustments. The usages were demonstrated in a few
ways and showed strong improvement. AfterEffects was also
one to capture the interest of the learning crowds with new
updates such as importing camera data from Maya or 3D
Studio Max in the production bundle. Such demonstrations
consisted of the improved lighting systems and multiple 2D
and 3D views which allow for individual customizations.

Sony was there at the show in full force. Quite a few of their
new product line was ready for DV enthusiasts to take a peek at. Such items
like their CCU-TX7 were present on the floor demonstrating
the power of their professional level video recorders, and
their improved mobility. On the entry level market Sony featured
items like the DSR-PDX10/PDX10P. The PDX10 provides
quite a nice package with a touch panel LCD monitor, 12x
Optical zoom/ 48x Digital zoom and 530 lines of horizontal
resolution. The performance of the camera was actually quite
surprising with easy to use controls and a crisp focus when zooming.
