ATI RADEON X700 - PAGE 5
Terren Tong - Tuesday, September 21st, 2004

Call of Duty

As we have seen numerous times in the past, OpenGL has been the traditional strength of Nvidia and still is. Without AA/AF, the 6600GT runs away in the performance department and even the pseudo-6600 manages to stay in front of the X700 Pro. THe story changes with AA/AF on where we move into a memory bandwidth starved situation. The 6600GT is dominant at 1024 but then drops off very sharply. At 1280 and 1600, there is very little that seperates the 6600GT and the X700 Pro. I expect the numbers to be even closer with the X700 XT but I am unsure if ATI will outperform the 6600GT outright at 1280 or 1600.

Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

At the higher resolutions, the with AA/AF the X700 does not manage to stay as close in Jedi Knight as compared to Call of Duty. It does manage to stay ahead of the pseudo-6600 in both Jedi Knight benchmarks however. At 1600x1200 with AA/AF, Jedi Knight 2 would be classified as playable on the 6600GT while it is not quite there on the X700 Pro.
