NVIDIA nForce 4 SLI for Intel - PAGE 11
Terren Tong - Tuesday, April 5th, 2005

Overclocking

Due to suspected processor limitations, I was unable to get as many overclocked results as I would have liked. On the NVIDIA reference board, the processor multiplier is not actually chosen by the end user during overclocking but depending on the FSB setting, the multiplier is adjusted accordingly. During testing of DFI's LanParty nF4 SLI-DR we noted there was a linear increase in framerate with a linear increase in processor frequency meaning that a 25% jump in clockspeed meant a roughly 25% jump in framerates. I've managed to corrupt the registry twice on the nForce 4 for Intel with my fiddling of the FSB but before the system crapped out I managed to get a few numbers at 3.73 Ghz /1066FSB with the 6800 GT SLI pair. Note that 3.73 is a 1.036 over a 3.6 increase in processor clockspeed. At a processor bound 640 resolution on DOOM3, HL2 and Halo and a greater than 4% increase was observed with an increase of 7%, 6%, 15% respectively. It's in the middle of the night everywhere right now so further testing and questions will have to follow later in the week but it looks tentatively like processor bus speed has a fairly large effect on the nForce 4 for Intel.

This concludes the benchmarking for the motherboard specific components of the nForce 4 for Intel. We now continue on with 6800GT vs 6800GT SLI benchmarks on just the nForce 4 / Corsair system.
