Today NVIDIA is launching their next flagship, high-end and mid-range series, the GeForce 7900 GTX, 7900 GT and GeForce 7600 GT. The 7900 GTX, which is what we will be taking a close look at, is poised to knock the 7800 GTX out of the flagship position, while the 7600 GT is NVIDIA's long-time-coming replacement for the now-archaic GeForce 6600 GT. Rounding out the middle is a high-performance-with-affordability-in-mind part, the GeForce 7900 GT.
Keeping with a tried and true tradition, NVIDIA is once going to garner points simply because GeForce 7900 GTX/7900 GT and 7600 GT parts are available starting today, though obviously in limited numbers. In the coming weeks, you can probably expect high availability of these parts, with every major online and physical retailer having stock.
As both consumers and reviewers, we are ... happy with this trend, to say the least. In a world of repeated paper launches, it's pleasing to see that there are companies out there who not only want to have the performance crown, but want to share that performance crown with the masses. The card we are using in our review today has kindly been supplied to us by EVGA, a long-time NVIDIA launch partner. While looking at the benchmark results, keep in mind that EVGA has raised the clock speeds of their card to 690 MHz core and 880 MHz memory.

While we are going to be focussing primarily on the 7900 GTX variant, we are expecting a shipment of various 7600/7900 series cards next week, so stay tuned for more detailed coverage in the near future!
With that said, let's get on with it!
