Thank you so much! I have had my PS2 since Dec 2001, and little by little i have been losing functionality. Stopped playing DVD's about 2 years ago, stopped playing certain games about 12 months ago, and I was about ready to retire it and buy a new one until I gave this guide a try. It now plays all games that it didn't before, and alos DVD's. Thanks again.

Just wanted to say thank you for this article! I've been on a Metal Gear Solid kick lately, so I busted out the PS2 to play parts 2 and 3, only to find that the loading tray no longer worked at all (it had been a little schizophrenic for a long time, but was now completely inoperable). Then I found this article, and a little while later, it was good as new! So, thank you very much.

Interesting the guide doesn't mention laser re-alignment. Once you've mastered that along with lens cleaning, you've got an unstoppable combo.

Well, except with those damn blue-coloured discs. They never work no matter what.

I can't unscrew the four smaller screws on the inside to get to the laser and shiz. I'm pretty sure I have the right size, they are just really really tight. Maybe because this is a fat model in the year 2012.

Tried it, there was very little dirt on the lens and it still isn't working
