I bought the retail version and it only works in compatibility mode. Great game, I would've given it a 7.5 as well, maybe an 8.

I just bought the game from steam, went to load it after it downloaded and I get an appcrash. It refuses to start at all. Apparently this is more of a common problem than I would have thought. I have not been able to find a solution to the problem. There were a couple suggestions, putting it into safemode, tweaking settings, none worked. If the game can't work "out of the box" I can only give it a 0/10. I want a refund but that word isn't in Steam's vocabulary. Runic Games, I want a refund please.

I've never played Diablo (I know, I know -- don't even look at me) but it's a ground I've always meant to tred, and the praise relative to the tiny price tag has certainly sold the game to me. I want a shallow RPG I can just pick up and play, that save feature mentioned above sounds super awesome. I'm definitely going to try and see if I can find this in town, though our typical retail stores treat PC gaming like the disappointing child, so catching a budget title isn't too likely. I still want Trine but they wanted the same price as a standard game, ffff.

Game aside, you're a rocking reviewer man. Keep up the PC stuff/in this forum, because I'm really enjoying your writing. Good stuff.
I played Diablo for about ten minutes and didn't like it.
I'm really picky with my ARPGs. Torchlight can definitely be that "shallow RPG" for you, not that there isn't a nice bit of depth there, cause there is.

As Zertz said, it's download only for now. Your situation may be good actually, because the retail version is coming Q1 2010, and may have only a disk check. Depending where you get this version, there is online activation and limited installs.
It's 10 from the official site (after that you call for more), but still, I hate those on principle.

The price on TRINE has been reduced since, I believe -- should be $20 everywhere.

Thank you for the compliment.
I plan to review many a PC game in the future. Next is a DS RPG...

The game looks great I was thinking about buying this toay or tonight on direct2drive for $20 and I know its worht it but is there online play?
They're making a free-to-play MMO set in the same universe for next year. Should be good.

You won't find it in any retail store yet, It's only available online for now
I got it directly from Runic's website and the download is "only" 350-something MB so it's not too bad.

Man, what's with you reviewing these awesome sounding RPG's when I'm buried in school work, haha. No time but so tempting.

I got it on launch day and it's well worth the $20. I love how you can just play a bit, save and then come back exactly where you left it and quickly get back to destroying things

I entirely agree with the review, it's a great game, but don't expect a major storyline and years worth of content (cough*Diablo2*cough) I think it's an excellent casual RPG.

I personally can't wait for Runic to release the SDK
