The Star Wars franchise is one of the largest out there today with media ranging from movies, books, comics, and even video games! With all of these things bouncing around for decades, you would have to live in a cave to not even hear of it. In the latest installment in the Star War series for video games, The Force Unleashed aims to please, and doesn't miss!
I was one of the few that actually went more than a decade without seeing any Star Wars movie, reading a Star Wars book/comic, or playing a Star Wars video game. In fact, it wasn't until about May of 2008 when I finally became engulfed by the force and was compelled to watch episodes one through six. I noticed how there was a huge time skip between the ending of episode three where Anakin first dons the black uniform and voice of Darth Vader, and the beginning of episode four when Luke is already a young man, and only a handful of Jedi are left throughout the galaxy. On top of everything else it does, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed explains a pretty good amount of what had been going on during that time.
The story looks pretty simple, but as Obi-wan Kenobi once said "Your eyes can deceive you; don't trust them." You are Darth Vader's secret apprentice and you are part of an ultimate plan by Lord Vader to help him overthrow Emperor Palpatine. He sends you out on hunting trips really, to go and kill the Jedi his spies have found. So you, who is known as "Starkiller" to Darth Vader, Proxy, who is a robot that can change his appearance, and Captain Juno Eclipse, the very sexy lady pilot, must fulfill Vader's requests. As you are doing this though, the truth starts to unfold about your past, what Vader's true intentions are, and other things, mainly twists, that will have you thinking that only M. Night Shyamalan himself could have thought of.
The game starts out with the classic Star Wars logo, then a summary of what is going on in the galaxy in the same style and animated text (blue font, scrolling into the background) as the movies have. It is the prologue leading up to you actually getting to take control of Darth Vader. Unfortunately your moves seem to be limited, and when you see him fight later he uses moves that aren't in your arsenal at the beginning. Still, you can do the basic force grip, push, and wielding of your powerful light-saber. As you progress throughout the level, which basically consists of taking down hoards of Wookies on Kashyyyk, you will eventually come upon a hut. A rogue Jedi comes out and you begin to fight him. When you are about to finish him off, your light-saber is taken away by young Galen Marek, just a boy then. Sensing that the force is with this young boy, he finishes off Galen's father and starts towards Galen. Stormtroopers come in and think that Vader is in danger, so they fire at the boy. Vader stops the blasts, and does away with the Stormtroopers.
