SiN Episodes: Emergence - PAGE 2Gabriel Vega - Wednesday, May 31st, 2006
Fortunately SiN is pretty straightforward and is able to produce a nice entrance into the game although honestly a bit of a strange one at that. Waking up into the SiN world strapped to a table with two of the primary villians is not the ideal way to start your day off, in the case of Blade our star character he encounters just this.
From the break in the initial commentary the game gets players going in the game learning the ropes and the basic functions of the game be it melee attacks, zoomed shots, using the environment, ducking out of a fire fight and more. Unfortunately this almost goes on a bit too long in a sense, as such players find themselves zooming through the same complex over and over again through numerous floors, while I understand the idea of it being an industrial complex it seems a bit overkill to cross through so many times.
In terms of AI systems the game takes a pretty nice approach to this in terms of attack patterns. On the easiest settings the enemies often run up and get mauled down, on higher settings the game uses a lot of returns to reload or lure the player into their assaults, of course the experience can be balanced by the available aid so that players that don't want a simple ride can fight tooth and nail for the latest health pack to keep themselves from flatlining.
Overall the learning curve is very easy on SiN even on the later levels, one of the key items that most will inevitably pick up is that stealth and headshots are key focuses to quick fights and preserving ammo without sacrificing everything when a fight comes up.
