Gameplay makes a game but what can always raise interest in the crowds is the visual appeal. High resolution textures and environmental effects are a must these days to give an impression of realism and the Storm Engine 2 delivers on this with ease. The characters of Pirates of the Caribbean come with free flowing clothing such as vests or jackets and dresses as well. Anyone can observe this by attacking a local and watching everyone run off to secure areas behind the guards that pursue after the attack. The clothing has fluid movement and is natural instead of a rough appearance by hard movements. The characters aren't the only thing to notice though, the environment contains detailed jungles complete with tall waving grass and palm trees, water effects that can appear calm and friendly or nightmarish as rain storms attempt to rip the ship in two and waves swallow crew members whole.
The score that accompanies the game is full of twists to match the mood of the area, jolly melodies while roaming the jungles or on the sea can be heard but in a turn of danger a dramatic score warning of possible doom takes over and sucks the player into the heat of the battle be it on land or by sea. All it takes a draw of the sword by the enemy or the entrance into a dangerous territory and the score takes over until the enemies are defeated entirely. While it compliments the game perfectly it can be quite a fright for anyone venturing the dungeons at night with headphones. Caution should be taken as chants of "you're gonna die" by the skeletons can be heard throughout the level winding up just about anyone.
Between the graphic details of each area and the characters within it and the sound score it's hard to imagine that one would be able to avoid being sucked into the environment which the game creates. Time can be spent admiring the various wonders in the game such as waterfalls or even the evil storms that plague the sea with devastating crashes against the hull of the ship and lightning which strikes all around the ocean and on the islands. One can also just roam as a trader of the sea by importing and exporting in each island where good standing is maintained. So many different layouts can be found that it's amusing to just wander for a bit.
