Nice review.

How much noise does the mini/suer orb makes in comparaison to other coolers? 2 fans seems like it's be kinda loud.

Also, I applaud you for not mentioning that the Mini Super Orb is an oxymoron. =)

As usual, the review is good, but I want to contend with your conclusions. How can you advise someone to "look elsewhere" for their cooling solution when you don't have comparative values that show the Orb is no longer "the one" to get? I just don't think that the whole "it's no longer as cool" argument holds much water. I'm more interested, right now, in whether or not the Super Orb is a better cooler, performance wise, than another cooler, at the same price??

As a side note, I would really like to see Neoseeker start doing more cooler reviews. There was a period when you did a lot, but now this Super Mini Orb pops up without any other cooler articles to compare to.

ps. really glad you took the effort to actually stick this onto a few motherboards rather than taking Thermaltake's word on the fit.

Samson,

Don't worry.. we've got 2-3 companies sending us some coolers, and I have a few more in mind..

If there's a certain product you'd like to see us review, let me know & i'll see what I can get a hold of.

Samson > Thanks for your comments, they're always appreciated.

I agree that it would have been nice to have other coolers to compare the Mini Super Orb to. Unfortunately we didn't have much of a choice in this situation.

Concerning my feelings about the "look", coolers (even more so than video cards) tend to be hot and trendy items, especially since they are so cheap (compared to other PC components). Because of this, I think it is important to take this into consideration when reviewing a cooler. As well, unless we start doing a lot of cooler reviews, we won't have the facilities to provide 100% absolute emperical data on the coolers we test.

One of the major reasons I recommended looking elsewhere for a Socket A cooler is because of the design flaws that still haven't been corrected. I feel this is reprehensible considering all of the problems people have had.

some good points, but I don't agree about this trendyness or hot products idea. I think performance is the bottom line, not whether the cooler is the coolest looking in town .

Point noted :] I will do my best to keep a balance between both (b/c I do agree that they are both important). Hopefully those other coolers will come in soon...

So...it has to be cool but it doesn't have to be cool, right?

Like with chicks: They have to be cool, but if they aren't nice to look at too it's just not the same. =)

agree, I find it hard to believe if someone told me I can fall for an ugly "chick" to spend rest of life with... has to be at least somewhat aesthetically pleasing, kinda depressing for the not-so-confident "chick" As for superorb, I find it too loud for the performance it seems to be giving (according to the reviews) I picked out a Alpha Pal 6035 (might got number wrong) which seems to have the good balance of cooling ability, the quiet, and within the AMD recommended weight of 300G (the alpha happens to be 299G!!) Like I said it other posts, I'll let you know how my new rig goes, in the meantime I'm enjoying my ultra silent comp:D

You mentioned that the KT7 was one of the motherboards that some HSF would not fit on. I recently bought a KT7A and was wondering if the same problem is with this model. If so old you advise me on some of my options on getting a new HSF that would fit the mobo. Thanks

i dont think this is a good cooler, bought one and from the start it was bad. installation was harder than normal reinstallation was even worse. the bottom is not flat, it has that little ring around the edge, thats bad for contact, as far as coooling it doesnt cool, compared to globawin and gladiator. dont buy any of the orbs if u want a good cooling. go with ocz or globalwin, swiftech if u can afford it.
