Messiah Review - PAGE 7
Drew Wilson - Friday, April 21st, 2000

Conclusion

Messiah had quite a bit of potential. The engine which runs it is flexible, and consequently could have been scaled up to allow for incredible graphics on computers running such cards as the infamous GeForce. Had this game been released a year ago, I would have been much more impressed overall. Still, the gameplay and storyline is fun enough. However, on occasion, the jumping puzzles became frustrating to deal with and took away from the enjoyment. In addition, the sound is nothing spectacular, but I found the top down perspective to be a nice change from my hours of playing Counterstrike. If you enjoy Tomb Raider, but have been looking for something with more of a twist, then Messiah might be for you. In spite of some of its shortcomings, it is based on a fresh perspective and offers something new to a genre mired with troubled clones. If Messiah had come out a little earlier, and had not included formulaic puzzles like the cumbersome platform jumps, it might have truly shined.
