Intro
So I was walking out of the kitchen after picking up a baloney sandwich, when I heard this ungodly scream coming from the living room. I turn around and there’s this stupid ‘deadite’ floating around, waving its freaky arms and puking ectoplasm all over me. Yeah yeah I get it, you’re scary and evil. So what? I’VE GOT A CHAINSAW FOR A HAND. Needless to say, I finished him off by gutting him and sticking a shotgun in his mouth and blowing his head off whilst quipping “Say hi to disco”.

And so the madness begins. For those of you who have seen Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead trilogy, you will know that it all started with a weekend of partying in a sinister wood cabin. Ash and a group of his friends discover an ancient book written in human blood and bound in human skin. If that wasn’t disturbing enough, an old tape recorder with a translated version of the “Necronomicon Ex Mortis” AKA: The Book Of The Dead, is found also. When the tape is played back (smart move), the translated incantations awaken an ancient and powerful evil that possess the living and turn them into evil zombies, or ‘deadites”.
So why does he have a chainsaw for a hand? The evil possessed it, so he cut it off. Not a bad replacement though...even though it does use up a lot of gas. Anyway, fast forward 8 years. The game is set after the third movie, “Army of Darkness”. Ash is Employee of the Year at S-Mart, he is dating Assistant Manager “Jenny” and life is pretty much back to normal. Except for the nightmares. He is haunted by visions of deadites, grotesque zombie-like creatures and the evil cabin in the woods. Tortured, he convinces Jenny to drive him back to the cabin to investigate. On arrival they find what else, but Ash’s dismembered hand. Still possessed, it turns on the old tape recorder and awakens the Evil once again . Pissed off and ready to kick some undead ass, Ash immediately goes to the toolshed and reclaims his trusty chainsaw attachment.
“You want a little? Come get some.”
Gameplay
Controls
After that spooky-cool intro, you end up in the cabin by yourself (or so you think). This is where you get to test out the controls and get used to them, because they are a little tricky. They involve about 13 keys on your keyboard. You can change them in Options but you are better off using the default selection, in my opinion. There’s nothing really tricky about it once you get the feel of them, and the only way to do that is play around here, while you can. I say this because later on it gets a tad harder. One of my favorite commands is the “Ash One Liner” button. When you press this, he spurts out such remarks as “Bring it on”, “What’s the matter....chicken? Buuuck buccckk buuuuccck!” and “Let’s go!”. There really is nothing more satisfying than finishing off a demon with a sarcastic comment on top of a nice disemboweling. The one liner button isn’t just there for your own amusement though. It can also be used as part of a ‘finishing’ combo move. When a deadite has been seriously wounded it will go into a state of shock. This is when you get nasty with your chainsaw and left-hand weapon. After that, press your one liner button and send him straight back to Hell, whilst looking really suave. Some other controls that you will make use of are: “Start/Rev Chainsaw”, “Use Chainsaw” and “Turn off chainsaw”. Yeah, sounds tedious but it actually makes it feel sort of realistic, having that much control over your weapon. Maybe I am just a power freak. There is also a button for your left-hand weapon. To be extra brutal, figure out some of your own combinations and watch the flesh rip!
On Screen Game Info
There is no fixed menu on the screen during gameplay, which I like. However when an enemy approaches, a green heathbar will appear, letting you know how much life you have left. The less green, the less life you have left - pretty straightforward. In the event where you are in need of a boost, you can easily press your inventory button ( the game pauses ) and a fullscreen will come up allowing you to select whichever item in your inventory that you need.
