As for graphics, DW6 Empires looks pretty good. Sure, there are better looking games out there, yet I have no real complaints about Empires either. There's a variety of maps to explore (unless you're in a timed mission), and aside from the obligatory brown-and-grey environments, there's some lovely battle locales.
I'd also like to note that the interface looks great, much easier on the eyes compared to DW5 Empires. As an added bonus, loading screens can be replaced by wallpapers of your favorite warrior, unlocked in Archives.
I would say that the voice acting has improved overall since my last Warriors game (now counting Orochi), with a few exceptions like Zhang He (ugh) and Zhao Yun. Seriously, Samurai Warriors gets Japanese by default, and I see no reason why Dynasty Warriors doesn't -- unless KOEI is intentionally messing with us now.
If you're not happy with the default BGM (background music), there's an option to switch it out for something else. Currently, the available tracks go as far back as Dynasty Warriors 2, and we've been promised new tunes in the future as DLC.
Honestly, I'd be more excited for Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires if it had online play, as the game still only supports 1-2 player offline co-op. KOEI's Warriors games have always been ideal co-op experiences, and they must know this because all their games thus far have co-op play.
The series has been going on for some time now, and it's obvious that even fans are eager to see these games cross into online multiplayer. On one hand, it's a lot more work for developers, but online play may be something for KOEI to look into. It would certainly appease hardcore Dynasty Warriors fans or even draw in new ones by breaking the motony and adding lasting appeal.
One thing is for certain -- this game is not about instant gratification. Even experienced players might struggle at first because that's just how its set up. That time and effort doesn't go wasted though, as the game does eventually reward the player for being patient. Some of the little things like befriending officers, marrying friends, and what not are all nice to have, but unless you're majorly into Dynasty Warriors, these tidbits won't make the the trademark hack-and-slash button-mashing combat any more exciting. For DW fans, I'd say this game is definitely worth checking out. For everyone else, it's just another Dynasty Warriors.

Well, character train wrecks and redemptions aside, looks like the Empires gameplay hasn't changed much. Still isn't Kingdom Under Fire, but at least they haven't mucked it up much. If Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 is any sign, DW6E's DLC might also be free. Might actually pick this one up today. I need my CAW fix. Not enough CAW features in today's games.
Those people at the Koei GF lied! They said the cut characters were coming back!!!
And yeah, I miss CAW. I was hoping it would be a tiny bit more detailed, but at 1 point I was afraid it would be the same as DW5E, so I guess it's still a big improvement.
Personally I don't think anything beats the SoulCalibur III CAW, unless I haven't played it.
I rented SCIV thinking that there'd be a new Chronicles of the Sword mode, and even better CAW features, then realized Namco SUCKS (I keep forgetting that). Releasing store DLC the same day the game releases = garbage publisher. Tossed the game back in gamefly circulation, got off my arse, went to gamestop and purchased Soul Calibur 3. Was happy again. From the brief CAW vids we've seen of Empires, looks like there's at least 20 sets of characters, and Jebus knows how many weapons sets.
If they had stated that cut characters were returning though, i'd imagine they would be pay-for DLC at some point. (If they make that 'free' i'd be surprised).
If they do release new characters though, I want them interacting in cutscenes and the like, even if there are few in the Empires series.
Yes, the CaW is looking very nice. Hopefully Koei don't ruin it in any future games. Which reminds me, can you only get main character weapons, or can you use generic officer weapons too?
DLC characters will most likely cost, and I have a bad feeling they'll be pricey. It's not the fact that they probably won't be free that bothers me. Just that they don't sell psn cards in Europe.
I think Canada got them recently, so hopefully someday...
Thank you RabidChinaGirl! YUSSSSS!!!!
Some front page news today confirmed DLC for July.
Original press release didn't reveal whether it would be free or not, so I had to email them about it.
Any idea what to expect?
It also confirms Edit Mode and BGM DLC in July, which will be free.
