Wow this review was beautiful, I'm leaning towards getting this game now that I've read this.

Cmm No, it can be played entirely single player either just by yourself or with up to three AI companions.

This game looks great! Seems everything I've heard about it from friends is true. Side-scrolling fighting game fans unite!

Definitely agree with this: "brawler games are meaningful to me. They represent family and friends, comradery"

However, Namco has actually did very well in supporting the genre with the side-scrolling beat-'em ups included in Tekken 4, Tekken 5, and Tekken 6. The co-op in Tekken 6 is even online, and a lot of fun! Dragon's Dogma is also a LOT like Capcom's old 2-D Dungeons & Dragons beat-'em ups. Even Lost Planet 2 takes a few pages from the book that made Capcom's Alien VS Predator successful in arcades. That being said, I wouldn't consider the genre a "shadow of what it used to be."

Thanks for the bit on George Kamitani; I never knew any of that stuff!

Tekken's side scrolling? Dude, their system sucked., They would be one of the last summbitches to put on the list for having promoted the sidescroller. Put Ubisoft down for their revamp of the old Turtles game, or Konami for re-releasing X-Men and The Simpsons arcade games, or The Behemoth for putting out Castle Crashers, and the guys behind Scott Pilgrim, Double Dragon Neon, Sacred Citadel, and even Squaresoft for Moon Diver.

(that's just me being overly ranty; my usual attitude these days, lol)

Actually, throw Cappy another bone as they just released their old arcade D&D games, and I forgot how much I lurvd them. Now if only Sega would hurry up and release Bare Knuckle 3/Streets of Rage 3 as a standalone, then i'd be set.

And playing through another round of Dragon's Dogma right now actually (paused)... how this game NEEDED coop. Shoulda let somebody play as their pawn in another persons game or something.

Maybe next time. I'm thunking Capcom's project Deep Down is another Dogma entry, or it could be they grabbed the D&D license from Wizards of the Coast and are producing a new title. Dogma reflected on D&D quite a bit and was the first game to get fighting a Dragon as 'right' as they did. (Sorry From Software, but having a gigantor Dragon one-shot punch me in the face wasn't cool).

I'm thinking of the Vita version if DedValve is thinking of it (and thinking of actually keeping it this time, the big doodoohead). I don't want to go this alone, my Vita's hurting for games, and I don't feel like the PS3 version.

Might have to wait a few weeks for that to happen though. Gotta get my paycheck (I'll skip SFxT deal in that case).

In the meanwhile, get soul sacrifice! It's awesome.

The save is cross compatible, but the gameplay/online is restricted to vita/vita, ps3/ps3. Dunno why they did that, tbh. The data stream from a 2d styled game like this ain't going to be heavy with sync errors at all. :S

Got the PS3 one myself but am defo' getting the Vita version as well. Vita version is 10 bucks cheaper, and doubt, aside from the smaller screen and slight increase in lag (wireless is slower than wired), it's otherwise still a knockout. That's what reviews have been saying, anyway.
