High scores around the board. In fact, Destructoid gave it a 10/10. Everyone seems to be enjoying two main things: level design and the aesthetics. I was actually rather amused when one reviewer pointed out a level and analysed the detail by praising the "moving ants".

These are the two main reasons I want this game sooooo bad. I've been watching videos online of some of the levels, but I'm trying to limit myself because I want to be surprised as well. The sound effects, music, and look and feel of the game are old-school, but then suddenly you're being shot into the background or foreground in a barrel and you realize you're playing an updated version pretty quickly. The only reason I'm holding off on purchasing this game is because I have a ton of papers due in the next couple of weeks and I'm deathly afraid this game would consume my life. Probably going to get it for Christmas, play hardcore for a couple of weeks and get it out of my system, then hopefully return have the itch completely scratched when I return to school in mid-January.

I got Donkey Kong Country Returns yesterday. It's pretty awesome. It uses basically the same blueprint Super Mario Bros Wii does. I'm still waiting for them to put DK64 in the Wii Shop.

Doesn't that go under the same category as Goldeneye? Since Rare made the game and Microsoft owns Rare now they won't let it go to the VC.

Well all the DKC games are on the Wii Shop. Even Rare themselves stated that they are puzzled as to why DK64 isnt in the Wii Store yet.

Hmm.. well you got me there haha. That makes no sense at all that DK64 hasn't been released on the Wii Shop Channel yet.

Nintendo secretly would like to forget the N64 ever existed. It was their biggest failure for their home consoles.

"Biggest failure" is probably a bit harsh. "Least successful" might be closer to the money, although I would have guessed the N64 would have done better than the Gamecube thanks to Goldeneye and Ocarina of Time.

Either way there's quite a few games that are missing from the Virtual Console, like the original Starfox and Yoshi's Island. I hope they all make an appearence eventually; DK64 was awesome!

Very much looking forward to getting DKCR now! All the reviews I've found have been extremely positive...So glad that Retro Studios lived up to my high expectations once again

N64 is my favourite console. I'm not sure what it is exactly about it...but I find it so charming. Then again, I have a tendency to like what everyone else considers an oddity.
Lots of great memories.
And while we're talking about Rare -- Perfect Dark is one of the finest shooters ever made.

I can't think of N64 as a failure, even though it probably was considering they lost a ton of third party support, but I loved a ton of games on that console. It's also weird for me to think it was a failure because almost all of my friends, who play(ed) video games at least, owned an N64 during that generation. And nowadays, I'm in college, my friends who don't really game have one console in their houses and guess what it is... N64 with all the classics that pretty much everyone loves. Oh the memories.

I thought the GameCube was Nintendo's biggest failure. N64 had some of the greatest games ever made. DK64 was one of them.

The Gamecube might have done the worst commercially, but the N64's cartridge format lost Nintendo so much support and opened the door for the Playstation to dominate the market. The N64 hosted some of the most important benchmark games that help it to be remembered fondly.

It might be more accurate to label the Gamecube the biggest failure, with the N64 being the biggest mistake.
