Custom Robo Review - PAGE 1Gabriel Vega - Thursday, May 27th, 2004
Nintendo is known for trying to create unique stories, characters and involvement in games, when they decided to take on the robot/mech genre most could almost sense a disaster in the making. To their dismay this really isn't the case with Custom Robo, players take control of a young boy, alone in his youth with no parents he lived off of funds mailed to him by his father. Now years later after a mysterious death notice arrives about his father the young boy faces the world around him, not seeking vengence, not seeking closure. Instead he's seeking a job since his funds are shrinking and he needs money to pay his land lady before she kicks him out. As a young man in the city there are not many jobs, the character applies to many jobs but fails consistently to manage being hired until his meeting with Steel Hearts, a bounty hunter outfit that performs odd jobs for the people of the city to deal out justice. While you don't initially get the job due to lack of experience and a custom robo, you get a fated mission to tag along with one of the bounty hunters in hopes that you will turn tail and run away. In this battle the player is able to attain a unique robo called Ray 01 and from that point the story takes off.

The game is based as an Action RPG title, as such it pushes for more involvement by the user and less traditional RPG roles for gameplay, the game is fairly fast paced with lots of dialogue and storyline to keep players glued to the screen. During the game parts and different custom robo base models are found, from here players can change up parts or robots to match their fighting style, the thing that the game tries to reinforce is that while you may get a newer part, it may not always match your tastes or style. With that said, players really do need to pay attention to their fighting so that they don't end up setting themselves up for a fall in battle. From start to finish the game will keep players attached with an actively building story that keeps players glued to the screen.
Lets skip the rest and get started on the rest of the details though.
