Introduction
The typical racer game pits you against any seemingly possible number of opponents on the track, going at it head to head in a heated pursuit of glory. If this setup appeals to you, then, honestly, Colin McRae Rally will not. For racing game fans it will be a big letdown. Even non-racing game fans, myself being an example, will likely see that it is not exactly the best of them. It is disappointing that considering todays technology, Codemasters couldn't take advantage of it to make a better game. Furthermore, its easy to lose sight of the fact that one of the most important reasons we play games is for fun and entertainment. This enjoyment is essentially the factor that makes or breaks a game, and to put it bluntly, CM Rally is just not fun.
Interface and Design
The interface is simple, very rough, and overall, sub-standard. It is entirely keyboard-driven, and the artistic elements are generally poor. The resolution is rather pathetic, the color disturbing, and the sound un-inviting. The manual fits inside the CD case, and is a rather bland combination of black & white drawings, uninformative content, and basically one of the many things going against the game. It is extremely unfortunate that more care and attention wasn't paid to the small details, which in the end, contributed to a bigger letdown.
