Now as we move on to our HDTach benchmarks, the Asus CrossHair does do quite well. Both the USB and IDE figures are in the lead, and I quite like the low CPU utilization that the CrossHair provides.
As we move onto the SATA drive speeds, there's a little problem. Now before we go jumping to any conclusions with regards to the CrossHair and its SATA speeds, there's a very reasonable explanation for this. It turns out there is some measure of difficulty in loading the Silicon Image SATA driver during the Windows XP installation process. There is a point during the XP install where the user is prompted to hit F6 it they want to install a third party SCSI or RAID device. This is also the point where one should be able to install SATA drivers. Unfortunately, Windows won't accept the SATA floppy disk I provided to it.

I could go into all the horrid and frustrating details of how I tried to get the SATA driver to work, but there would be some rather colourful language involved. Nevertheless, I've resolved to get these SATA figures for both the Asus CrossHair and the Abit Fatal1ty. There are a couple tricks left up my sleeve.
