AI
As you work your way through the levels in Evolva, you’ll balance your time between engaging in fierce combat with the parasitical creatures, and canvassing the map in an effort to solve the various puzzles in the game. As a tribute to the developers of Evolva, the artificial intelligence of friendly units is exceptionally good. Assign one of your Genohunters to a certain location on the map, and it will skillfully find its way there, even if it must climb through a maze of winding cliffs or hop over deadly lava pits. The Genohunters are also pretty good at assisting in skirmishes involving swarms of spiders or other enemies. The enemy AI is quite strong too, but typically they’ll try to overwhelm you with superior numbers rather than cunning tactics. Most skirmishes are won by hopping around as much as possible, strafing the enemy, and avoiding enemy fire while frantically switching between weapons.
While engaging the enemy and traversing the caves and canyons
of the different maps, it’s important to know where the rest of your team is. Rather than having to physically turn around to see if your team is following you, simply take a glance at any of four individual windows at the bottom of the screen, which shows a first-person view from each of your Genohunters. In addition to the Genohunter windows, there is a modest mini-map showing the direction of the next objective, as well as potential meat for consumption. Without the mini-map, it would be quite difficult to locate some of the items that must be found on the sprawling levels in Evolva.
