Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is a critical factor in the success or failure of any RTS game. In Earth 2150, the AI is spotty at best. Often, enemy units will attack viciously, and surround you on all sides. Although the game is definitely challenging because of the relentless persistence of the enemies, they dont do anything particularly clever. Your own units are far worse when it comes to battle field operations. Be prepared for some micro-management as your units stand around getting blasted without retaliating or taking cover. At other times, they will blindly dash into the enemy base, effectively making themselves into cannon fodder. Pathfinding is average, but occasionally a platoon or group can bottleneck themselves while trying to negotiate a narrow passage way. To make your operations slightly easier to command, you can change the AI script of any unit or platoon by a simple selection on the interface.
Earth 2150 is chock full of little features that you might not expect. One of these is the way in which combat units have to be continually replenished with ammunition during battle. Arial supply units must be built and given a special supply building so that ammunition can be ferried to the battlefield. Run out of ammo, and your platoon is toast. Another often overlooked, or under-appreciated feature is the ability to change difficulty settings between missions. These, and a myriad of other features make the game challenging at times, yet very complete.
