One nation under Reggie with... er
Of course E3 is going to include news from the big 3, seeing as only 2 of those 3 really acknowledge us, we'll just go with them. Yeah no MS coverage.
First up is Nintendo in the morning with their press conference, the company riding out a hot streak thanks to the Wii and continued success of the DS has come in with the continued battle plan to appeal to all gamers (minus anyone who might have wanted Manhunt 2) as a result fans can expect to see a new variety of titles on the DS and Wii coming soon that attack those areas.
The DS will end up taking on some real goodies, titles like Brain Age 2 will push minds and comprehensive skills to new levels thanks to new interactions with music, words, logic puzzles and voice recognition. As a result current fans and new gamers will be able to enjoy a new variety of challenges that prove to be fun and entertaining for those involved. Given the demo I'd say that the newest addition plans to be quite a seller in all regions.
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is the latest addition to the Wii, aiming to catpure the interest of the enthusiasts and the casual gamers it serves a dual role to really bring home some entertainment for those playing. Since the launch this past June the game has already taken on a great roll of success.
Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day works to help even the most out of touch gamers sharpen their reactions, their focus and overall experience in gaming, as a result gamers can boost up their ability to focus on events, pop-up sequences, reaction times and more, it certainly will work as a bridge for NIntendo to help the more casual gamers break into the more basic markets that they may have been shy from simply due to a lack of experience.
Of course this is not all, there's an estimated 140 games also ready to hit the DS soon as well as the new Ubi titles My word coach, which explore language much like the infamous titles overseas already well underway for instruction of Japanese, English, etc.
The Wii gets next honors.
The focus for the Wii has been the platform development and stability, this time around it's all about the platform, no really, it is. The latest addition to the accessory lineup is a platform to be used in conjunction with the latest software addition Wii Fit. Honestly I was a bit skeptical but it really is quite fun, the best part was the warning about the usage of it, no shoes just socks, glad I was one of the first to really jump on that thing, come the end of the day, it was looking for a date with some lysol or something to bring it back to life. Chances are we'll see a third party cover for it by release. Right now the game looks good and seems to be an easy capture for audiences that already enjoyed Wii Sports and Wii Play. Honestly I was suprised at the size of the Wii Balance Board and the fact that Reggie held no punches in Soccer.
Honestly though, while I was happy to see them continuing to develop accessories, I was glad to see them keeping the core gamers happy, Mario Kart Wii (temporary) was awesome to see, the wheel, not so much, Ubi already did it at launch and even then it wasn't that hot of an accessory. Either way it should be a good inclusion since some people do tend to avoid Mario Kart simply becuase of the experience gap, this can be said about many racing games actually. With an early 08 release we can only hope they stick to that and put out a game that holds to the awe everyone is already in.
Super Mario Galaxy is yet another title we've been waiting on, thankfully it really is coming this November on the 12. The game looks great and is polishing up well as it heads towards production, the tweaking of gravity and sense of enjoyment makes it a title worth really considering instead of it just being a tech demo gone production.
The Wii Zapper, what can I say, taking a classic title and bringing it to a highly popular system for new and old gamers. The unit combines the Wii-Mote and Nunchuk into a single object of domination. Of course the Zapper will come with bonus software for actual usage, Third parties are already on the path with games to take advantage of the design. Finally some arcade shooters for the Wii!
The Wii gets some software updates as well, the Mii Out Channel provides users a platform to show off their creations in competition or on their own. Finally something to help get those much debated sessions of "who has the best mario" settled.
Super Smash Bros. it's finally on the way, well we knew it was but it's coming for sure December 3, just in time for the holiday rush, the question is, will people actually wait for the holidays or will they just rip right into it. The character madness is set to ensue come this Winter.
Other than that it was pretty simple, they wanted to push the number of titles coming to the Wii, currently over 100, the problem of course with many gamers is how many of those will they relaly feel like playing? We don't know but the list seems to be quite big with enough titles to hopefully carry gamers over for a while.
