Anime Expo 2007 Report - PAGE 4
Gabriel Vega - Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

One of the biggest attractions for the general populace is not only a reason to go out and cosplay as your favorite anime character or game persona but also to be able to try and justify boatloads of spending over a 4 day period to the extent where eating, bills and transportation home all come into question. The exhibtiion hall has always served this purpose, this year continuing to deliver a massive onslaught of shopping to fans in the cool climate of the convention center floor. Anything from HK movies to Manga, to Copic markers to Plushies to the latest and greatest releases on DVD which in some cases even broke street release dates. Oh it is a good year to be a fan. Although granted I admit that compared to even last year it seems like the hall had a bit of trouble keeping people active in there, mainly due to the line waiting that people subjected themselves to at the show this year. Given that if premier holders didn't wait they could have hit the video rooms, shopped more or took part in many of the other events at AX this year.

I will say that 2007 marked a year of variety, the shops seemed to have covered as many bases as they could, where in thepast they had focus items of only emphasising manga, or genre's of anime, this year they pushed from all angles to see what they could turn up and I believe to an extent it went well enough. I think I could have dealt with a bit more organization though since there seemed to be a lot of room going on between the dealers making for excessively long trips if you're cosplaying or just hoping to find something specific. The major players this year also toned down the impacts of their shows, no real emphasis on the big games, the loud calls and the t-shirt throws, it seems that while it was a great piece of fun before, the fire marshall may have had the final say in actions of the companies.

The overall layout of the show really demonstrated the peak of space usage, in prior visits the show expanded across multiple hotels and crammed spaces, this year the show makes use of the full LBCC and some of the Hyatt and Westin Hotel which are surrounding the center. The concentration of the show was based in the LBCC which was nice and really took from what was seen at Anaheim in prior years. This time live panels, autograph sessions, gaming, workshops, registration the artist alley and more were all in the main areas around the exhibition hall, so not only was it a quick way to buy but things were right upstairs to check out and relax in.

Given the selection and the GoH features it provided fans some quick entertainment if they were up for the challenge.
