Call of Duty 4 - MP Beta Impressions Preview - PAGE 1

Some gamers have a mixed impression of the Call of Duty series, mainly because the original was supported through Infinity Ward and focused on some very impressive mechanics, that lasted in gaming and benchmarking as quite a standard, for a good deal of time the WW2 genre was huge for gaming. As time passed and games like BF2 entered, things moved on. In that Infinity Ward moved on as well, passing the duty of 3 to the hands of another developer and going into long term development of what is now Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

The playtest we're currently participating in was provided by Infinity Ward earlier this week, the demo of course taking place on the Xbox 360.

From this point we're looking at the MP gaming experience which has been hit and miss for the series. We're also checking out how far the game has evolved since COD2.

The primary content right now rests in video clips, we're going to be shoving a lot more content out in this form to help get the experience down since really in a game like this it's all about the experience. The screens can be tricky to judge from. I will note that for anyone getting in on the beta, ATI's PVR and live play don't go well.

Here's something funny. I bring CoD4 over to my mates house, but he didn't want to play it, said it isn't his type of game. Later on, he gets his gamerscore to 9995. Being an achievement addict, he desperately wanted 5 gamerscore to get the 10,000 mark. I said to stick CoD4 in and do the first level, can get an achievement in a few minutes. He declined, and instead decided to try and finish Guitar Hero on hard, which mind you, is insanely difficult. Even though he could have had his achievement in a few minutes and played one of the best games of the year, he'd rather stay away from it because he doesn't like it, even though he's never played it (or another CoD game).

In the end, he never got Guitar Hero finished or the 10,000 gamerscore, and never touched CoD4. This guy buys really crap second hand games just for achievements (such as X-Men 3 and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland), yet he won't go near CoD4...

Anyone know any levels that are easy/short on veteran.

Like the first level on the ship is an easy veteran level.
The VIP level at the end is short, but very hard.(any tips for that one)

Currently level 20. I am on 'Hunted' on Veteran. That *bleep*ing helicopter is ANNOYING.

I ended up getting it, I hid in the ticket booth thing the whole time, all I had to worry about was grenades.

Definitely, bro. I've always been a HUGE FAN of stealth in video games, and sneaking around, while sniping unsuspecting enemies was just awesome. Plus, McMillan was just so cool.

I liked chasing down the terrorists son the most though.

I agree 100% Overall this is a fantastic single player game. I'll probably try multiplayer tomorrow but the campaign is awesome. I have loved the COD games ever since the first one but this is just so much fun to play. It's distinctly COD but in a modern setting. I recommend this to any FPS fan.

*bleep* me, when that nuke went off was my favourite part of the game. That was just so awesomely done. My favorite part of a level though was probably The first half of All Ghillied Up too. Right up until after you snipe the dude when you have to account for wind direction/speed. Then it just got annoying and frustrating.
