Introduction
The fate of an entire colony lies trusty in gamers hands in this game based on the 1998 action thriller. The movie starred Kurt Russel where he played a military leader named Todd, who single handedly had to save an entire colony from destruction. The main plot of the Hollywood feature focused on the character Todd who was in charge of a genetically engineered First Generation class of commandos. With the advancement of time, came improvements in this engineering and a second batch was soon produced. The result was a second batch that was much faster, stronger and deadlier than the First Generation team. Accordingly, a contest to the death was held between the leaders of these two factions in an obstacle type course. Consequently, Todd lost this battle and was left for dead, all the while being transported to a junkyard planet by a disposal vehicle. This planet was thought to be uninhabited, but a thriving colony existed there nevertheless, and the people discovered Todd all abandoned and alone. The people had only one goal in mind, and that was to get off the barren planet that they inhabited. Their plans to find paradise were put on hold however, after the Second Generation Soldiers were given orders to eradicate all life in this wasteland. Todd was the only thing standing between the militia and an all out slaughter of the colony.
Soldier is classified as a third person action/arcade game comparable to MDK. The beta version 5 was sent by SouthPeak and contained all fifteen levels that are to be shipped with the gold copy. Gameplay starts out with the choice between two characters: the bulky combatant Todd, or Sandra a smaller rebel settler. If you choose Todd, what you get is a little slower individual with a higher amount of armor. Sandra on the other hand is a more agile and speedy character to play when compared to the unwieldy fighter. Soldier has an easy learning curve and consists of a beautifully displayed three-dimensional graphical world. Gamers will be able to use four different categories of weapons with 5 different power-up classes.
