Once again the ultimate is upon us. E3 comes back to LA and the big players resume their pre-show demonstrations showing their arsenal of titles and looks at their offerings into the next-generation of console gaming that we're almost completely upon.
First up is Nintendo, a fan favorite and our yearly company to attend with. The subject of course is the Wii and the Nintendo DS. While many would assume that we'd see the final specs, pricing and more on the Wii, everyone was instead assured that they would be out in due time. The only thing that really happened to hint at anything was the release year being this year fortunately. Gamers have been quite patient on both the PS3 and Wii hoping for a solution soon enough which is a bit clearer thanks to that year.
First up for the demonstrations were the use of the Wii controller and attachment, the vision of Nintendo embracing the change of gameplay dynamics, using the Wii controller in ways that makes the gamer feel like part the experience rather than the user on the other side of the glass simply looking in on this world created before them. The support from in house and 3rd parties seems to be quite intense though, companies taking advantage of the features of the Wii and making the most out of them be it a game like Red Steel or the latest Sonic title to land on the Wii.
Overall the experience was very impressive, demonstrating the low-power features, active environment elements constantly growing and the extremely energetic gestures to play the game it really worked to pull a capture on the audience. The key of that was the Tennis match between the lucky winner of the AOL contest and Reggie, Iwata and of course Mishimoto really pushed the family/friends united aspect and the general competitive effect of the game on people in these situations.
Since we wanted to step it up a year I decided to compress the video into quicktime 6 format for easy downloads via files.neo these should give those that didn't catch the webcast a better insight into how it went down.
